buddho bhagavān satkṛto gurukṛto mānitaḥ pūjito rājabhī rājāmātyair dhanibhiḥ pauraiḥ śreṣṭhibhiḥ sārthavāhair devair nāgair yakṣair asurair garuḍair gandharvaiḥ kinnarair mahoragair iti devanāgayakṣagandharvāsuragaruḍakinnaramahoragābhyarcito buddho bhagavān jñāto mahāpuṇyo lābhī cīvarapiṇḍapātraśayanāsanaglānapratyayabhaiṣajyapariṣkārāṇāṃ saśrāvakasaṃghaḥ śrāvastyāṃ viharati sma jetavane 'nāthapiṇḍadasyārāme.(SumAv_1)

sa ca gṛhapatiputro dainyenāvatiṣṭhate, sa ca nirgranthair ucyate: kim arthaṃ tvaṃ no vivāhayasīti. sa provāca: patnī me sadṛśī na vidyate. ta ūcur: anāthapiṇḍadasya duhitā sumāgadhā nāmāsti, sāpi abhirūpā darśanīyā prāsādikā janapadakalyāṇīsadṛśī, tāṃ prārthayeti.(SumAv_8)

tato 'sau sahaśravaṇād eva tasyāṃ saṃraktacitto babhūva. yāvad anyatīrthikaveśaṃ kṛtvānupūrveṇa śrāvastīm anuprāptaḥ, piṇḍapātram anuvicarann anāthapiṇḍadasya gṛhaṃ praviṣṭaḥ. sumāgadhā bhikṣāṃ gṛhītvā nirgatā. sā tena dṛṣṭā. sahadarśanād evātīva saṃraktacitto babhūva. sa bhrāntena khorakena śaktuṃ pratigṛhnāti, mathitaṃ ca sikkāyāṃ.(SumAv_9)

tataḥ sumāgadhā tam asaṃvṛtendriyaṃ dṛṣṭvā prahasitā, āha ca: asaṃprajānā ime 'nyatīrthyā bhikṣāṃ pratigṛhṇantīti. tataḥ so 'pi tayā saha prahasito bhikṣāṃ gṛhītvā prakrāntaḥ.(SumAv_10)

tataḥ puṇḍravardhanaṃ gatvā pitur niveditavān. tena sā dārikā śrāvastīṃ gatvā yācitā.(SumAv_11)

anāthapiṇḍadena gṛhapatinā bhagavān pṛsṭaḥ. bhagavān āha: gṛhapate, pravrajitām idam akaraṇīyam. api tu yadi sumāgadhā puṇḍravardhanaṃ yāsyati, tatrāpi buddhakāryaṃ kariṣyatīti.(SumAv_12)

sā śvaśruṇocyate: dārike, kimarthaṃ parikhinnāsīti. sā provāca: ārye, yady evaṃvidhā dakṣinīyāḥ. pāpakārinaḥ punaḥ kīdṛśā bhavantīti.(SumAv_17)

sā kathayati: dārike, 'sti kaścid ebhyo 'nyaḥ prativiśiṣṭataraḥ śāstā loke.(SumAv_18)

yasmin samaye krīḍāharṣamaṇḍanavibhūṣaṇasthānayogam anuyuktena vihartavyam, tasmin samaye 'kāmakānāṃ jñātīnām sāśrukaṇṭhānāṃ rudanmukhānāṃ keśaśmaśrūṇy avatārya kāśāyāṇi vastrāṇy ācchādya samyag eva śraddhayāgārād anagārikāṃ pravrajitaḥ.(SumAv_20)

āryadharmatayā nyāyadharmatayā virajadharmatayā atuladharmatayā labdhasahāyaḥ sa bhagavān, bahavo 'sya sahāyakāḥ śīlasaṃpannāḥ samādhisaṃpannāḥ prajñāsaṃpannā vimuktisaṃpannā vimuktijñānasaṃpannāḥ.(SumAv_25)

punar aparaṃ; sa bhagavān yaṃ grāmakṣetram upaniśritya viharati, na tatra manuṣyā amanuṣyā vā viheṭhayanti, kālena kālaṃ divyāni rūpāṇi dṛśyante, divyāḥ śabdāḥ śrūyante, udārāś cāvabhāsāḥ prajñāyante, devaḥ kālena kālaṃ samyag vāridhārām anuprayacchatīti.(SumAv_26)

tasyāḥ sahaśravaṇād eva bhagavato 'ntike cittam abhiprasannaṃ, sā prasannacittā kathayati: dārike, śakyasi tvaṃ taṃ bhagavantam asmākam upadarśayitum.(SumAv_27)

sā kathayati: ārye, tena hi tvaṃ bhaktaṃ sajjīkuru, śvo 'haṃ bhagavantam ānayisyāmīti. mūṣilapatnī kathayati: sādhu, sarvaṃ sajjitam iti.(SumAv_28)

tataḥ sumāgadhā bhavanapṛṣṭham abhiruhya maṇḍalakam upalipya puṣpāṇy avakīrya bhagavantam abhinamasya yasyāṃ diśi prativasati tasyāṃ diśi puṣpāṇi kṣipati, dhūpaṃ ca dadāti, bhṛṅgārodakaṃ ca bhagavato nimantraṇakaṃ preṣayati. evam āha:(SumAv_29)

sarvajña kāruṇika bho khalu sāṃprataṃ me saṃdarśanaṃ svayam ihāgamanaṃ kurusva / saṃghena sāgarasamena samaṃ jitāre āgāminīṃ prativasasva niśām atulyam // anugrahārthaṃ bhagavan mamādya kartuṃ narāṇāṃ manasaḥ prasādaṃ / rūpasya te darśanamātrakena lokaikanātha kriyatāṃ prasādaḥ // (SumAv_30)

tatas tāni puṣpāṇi buddhānāṃ buddhānubhāvena devatānāṃ ca devatānubhāvena haṃsapaṅktir ivākāśe jetavanābhimukhāni saṃprasthitāni, dhūpo 'bhrakūṭavad vaiḍūryaśalākovedakaṃ bhagavato 'grataḥ sthitam.(SumAv_31)

śvo yuṣmābhiḥ puṇḍravardhanaṃ nagaraṃ gantavyaṃ, tīrthyāvaṣṭabdhaṃ taṃ nagaram, ṛddhivikurvaṇam kartavyam, aprasannānāṃ prasādāya, prasannānāṃ bhūyobhāvāya, durmaṅkūnāṃ nirgrahāya, lajjināṃ sparśavihārayeti.(SumAv_35)

tataḥ sthavirasthavirāḥ śalākāṃ grahītum ārabdhāḥ. tatra pūrṇo nāma sukuṇḍopadhānīyaḥ sthaviraḥ, so 'pi śalākāṃ grahītum ārabdhaḥ. āyuṣmatānandenocyate: sthavira, nedam anāthapiṇḍadasya gṛhaṃ gantavyam, api tu puṇḍravardhanaṃ nagaraṃ gantavyaṃ ṣaṣṭyuttarayojanaśataṃ yāvad ṛddhivikurvaṇaṃ kartavyam.(SumAv_36)

tataḥ sasaṃbhramaṃ sthaviraḥ śalākāṃ chorayitvā, yāvad dvitīyasya bhikṣoḥ śalākā na dīyate, tāvat ṣaḍabhijñām utpādya gajabhujasadṛśaṃ dakṣiṇaṃ bāhum abhiprasārya śalākāṃ gṛhītvā kathayati: na hi rūpaguṇair na hi sauṣṭhavair na balātkāraguṇair na gauravāt / jarayā hi nipīḍitayauvanāḥ ṣaḍabhijñās tu bhavanti madvidhāḥ // (SumAv_37)

tataḥ prabhatāyām rajanyāṃ sthavirasthavirāḥ svakasvakena ṛddhyanubhāvena saṃprasthitāḥ.(SumAv_38)

atha mūṣilapatnī bhagavato 'rthe śuciṃ praṇītaṃ khādanīyaṃ bhojanīyaṃ samudānīyāsanakāni prajñapya, udakamaṇiṃ pratiṣṭhāpya, bhavanapṛṣṭham abhiruhya, sumāgadhāpi svāminā sārdhaṃ śvaśureṇa bahiḥ sthitā cintayati.(SumAv_39)

kiṃ bhagavān āgamiṣyati. atha nāgamisyatīti. athavānyatropanimantrito bhaviṣyati.(SumAv_40)

tato bhagavantaṃ namaskṛtya yasyāṃ diśi prativasati tām diśaṃ prekṣitum ārabdhā.(SumAv_41)

atrāntareṇāyuṣmān ājñātakauṇḍinya uragaratham abhinirmāya śanair mandaṃ mandaṃ deve vṛṣṭāyamāne vidyutsu niścarantīṣu meghadhvaninirnādena tatropaviṣṭa upari vihāyasā ṛddhyākāśenāgacchati.(SumAv_42)

taṃ dṛṣṭvā sumāgadhāyāḥ svāmī sumāgadhāṃ papraccha: sumāgadhe, 'yaṃ te sa śāstā, yo 'yam uragarathopaviṣṭaḥ śanair mandaṃ mandaṃ deve vṛṣṭāyamāne vidyududdyotaṃ darśayamāno meghadhvaninirnādena ṛddhyākāśenāgacchati.(SumAv_43)

sā provāca: nāyam āryo 'jñātakauṇḍinyaḥ saṃghasthaviraḥ, anena bhagavatā bārāṇasyāṃ dharme deśyamāne tatprathamato vairāgyam adhigatam ayaṃ bhagavatā nirvāṇādhigamaprāptānām agro nirdiṣṭah, sa eṣāgacchati. (1)(SumAv_44)

rājā saṃlakṣayati: sarvajanapriyā me kāñcanamālā, tāṃ vyāpādayitukāmā brāhmaṇā evam āhuḥ. varaṃ mamaiva maraṇaṃ, na tu kāñcanamālāṃ vyāpādayiṣyāmīti.(SumAv_253)

(2) yat tvaṃ punaḥ svapnam adrākṣīs, tṛṣitasya pṛṣṭhataḥ kūpo dhāvati, tasyaiva śravakā dharmaṃ deśayiṣyanti śraddhānāṃ gṛhapatīnāṃ, te satṛṣṇā eva prakramiṣyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (3) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīr, muktāprasthena śaktuprasthaṃ krīyamāṇam iti, tasyaiva śrāvakāḥ śaktuprasthasya hetor indriyabalabodhyaṅgāni saṃprakāśayiṣyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (4) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīś, candanaṃ kāṣṭhārgheṇa samīkriyamāṇaṃ, tasyaiva śrāvakās taṃ tīrthikavākyam anugṛhya saddharmeṇa samīkariṣyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (5) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīr, gandhahastī kalabhair vitrāsyata iti, tasyaiva śrāvakā asaṃyatās te śīlavanto bhikṣūn niṣkāśayiṣyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (6) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīr, ārāmāṃ puṣpaphalasaṃpannaṃ adattādāyibhir apahriyamāṇaṃ, tasyaiva śrāvakā āryasaṃghasya pratipāditam ārāmaṃ saṃgham ālaṃbīkṛtya kecid abhāvitakāyā abhāvitacittā abhāvitaprajñāḥ saṃghād ācchidya puṣpaphalaṃ svajanebhyo dāsyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (7) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīr, aśucimrakṣito markaṭaḥ parān upaliṃpyatīti, tasyaiva śrāvakā abhāvitakāyā abhāvitacittā abhāvitaprajñā ātmanāpattim āpannāḥ śrāddhānām api bhikṣūṇām āpattiṃ vyavasthāpayiṣyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (8) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīr, markaṭasya rājyābhiṣekaḥ, tasmin samaye vikalendriyā api rājāno bhaviṣyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (9) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīḥ, paṭo 'ṣṭādaśabhir janair ākṛṣyate na ca śīryata iti, tasya parinirvṛtasya śāsanam aṣṭādaśabhedabhinnaṃ bhaviṣyati, na ca śakyati vimuktipaṭaṃ pāṭayituṃ, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. (10) yat tvaṃ svapnam adrākṣīr, mahājanakāyaś caikatra saṃnipatya kalahabhaṇḍena vivādavigrahenātināmayanti, tasya śāsane asaṃyatā bhikṣavaḥ kalahabhaṇḍanavigrahavivādenāntardhāpayiṣyanti, tasyaitat pūrvanimittam. mā bhaiṣīs tvaṃ, mahārāja, na tavetonidānaṃ rājyāc cyutir bhaviṣyati jīvitāntarāyo vā.(SumAv_258)

tato bhagavatā tasya rājñas tasya ca mahājanakāyasya tādṛśī caturāryasatyasaṃprativedhikī dharmadeśanā kṛtā, yāṃ śrutvā caturaśītyā prāṇiśatasahasraiḥ satyadarśanaṃ kṛtam.(SumAv_259)

bhagavān āha: kāñcanamālayaiva, bhikṣavaḥ, pūrvam anyāsu jātiṣu karmāṇi kṛtāni upacitāni labdhasaṃbhārāṇi pariṇatapratyayāny oghavat pratyupasthitāny avaśyaṃbhāvīni. kāñcanamālayaiva, bhikṣavaḥ, karmāṇi kṛtāni upacitāni. ko 'nyaḥ pratyanubhaviṣyati. na, bhikṣavaḥ, karmāṇi kṛtāny upacitāni bāhyapṛthivīdhātau vipacyante, nābdhātau, na tejodhātau, na vāyudhātāv, api tūpātteṣu eva skandhadhātvāyataneṣu karmāṇi kṛtāni vipacyante śubhāny aśubhāni ca.(SumAv_263)

iti hi, bhikṣava, ekāntakṛṣṇānāṃ karmaṇām ekāntakṛṣṇo vipākaḥ, ekāntaśuklānām ekāntaśuklo, vyatimiśrāṇāṃ vyatimiśraḥ. tasmāt tarhi, bhikṣava, ekāntakṛṣṇāni karmāṇy apāsya vyatimiśrāṇi ca, ekāntaśukleṣv eva karmasv ābhogaḥ karaṇīya iti. tasmāt tarhi, bhikṣava, evaṃ śikṣitavyam, yac chāstāraṃ satkariṣyāmo gurukariṣyāmo mānayiṣyāmaḥ pūjayiṣyāma ity evaṃ vo, bhikṣavaḥ, śikṣitavyam.(SumAv_269)
