ayam arthaḥ -- śvetaketuṃ pratyāha stabdho 'sy uta tam ādeśam aprākṣya iti paripūrṇa iva lakṣyase tān ācāryān prati tam apy ādeśaṃ pṛṣṭavān asīti / ādiśyate 'nenety ādeśaḥ / ādeṣaḥ praśāsanam / etasya vā akṣarasya gārgi sūryācandramasau vidhṛtau tiṣṭhata ity ādibhir aikyarthyāt / tathā ca mānavaṃ vacaḥ -- praśāsitāraṃ sarveṣām ityādi / atrāpy ekam eveti jagadupādānatāṃ pratipādyādvitīyapadenādhiṣṭhātaranivāraṇād asyaivādhiṣṭhātṛtvam api pratipādyate /atas taṃ praśāsitāraṃ jagadupādānabhūtam api pṛṣṭavān asi yena śrutena matena vijñātenāśrutam amatam avijñānaṃ śrutaṃ mataṃ vijñātaṃ bhavatīty uktaṃ syāt / nikhilajagadudayavibhavavilayādikāraṇabhūtaṃ sarvajñatvasatyakāmatvasatyasaṃkalpatvaparimitodāraguṇagaṇasāgaraṃ kiṃ brahmāpi tvayā śrutam iti hārdo bhāvaḥ / tasya nikhilakāraṇatayā kāraṇam eva nānāsaṃsthānaviśeṣasaṃsthitaṃ kāryam ity ucyata iti kāraṇabhūtasūkṣmacidacidvastuśarīrakabrahmavijñānena kārrabhūtam akhilaṃ jagad vijñātaṃ bhavatīti hṛdi nidhāya yenāśrutaṃ śrutaṃ bhavaty amataṃ matam avijñātaṃ vijñātaṃ syād iti putraṃ prati pṛṣṭavān pitā / tad etatsakalasya vastujātasyaikakāraṇatvaṃ pitṛhṛdi nihitam ajānan putraḥ parasparavilakṣaṇeṣu vastuṣv anyasya jñānena tadanyavijñānasyāghaṭamānatāṃ buddhvā paricodayati -- kathaṃ nu bagavaḥ sa ādeśa iti /(RVas_13)

tajjñānenāsya nikhilasya jñātatāṃ bruvaṃl lokadṛṣṭaṃ kāryakāraṇayor ananyatvaṃ darśayituṃ dṛṣṭāntam āha -- yathā somyaikena mṛtpiṇḍena sarvaṃ mṛnmayaṃ vijñātaṃ syād vācārambhaṇaṃ vikāro nāmadheyaṃ mṛttikety eva satyam iti / ekam eva mṛddravyaṃ svaikadeśena nānāvyavahārāspadatvāya ghaṭaśarāvādinānāsaṃsthānāvasthārūpavikārāpannaṃ nānānāmadheyam api mṛttikāsaṃsthānaviśeṣatvān mṛddravyam evettham avasthitaṃ na vastvantaram iti / yathā mṛtpiṇḍavijñānena tatsaṃsthānaviśeṣarūpam ghaṭaśarāvādi sarvaṃ jñātam eva bhavatītyarthaḥ /(RVas_15)

tataḥ kṛtsnasya jagato brahmaikakāraṇatām ajānan putraḥ pṛcchati -- bhagavāṃs tv eva me tad bravītv iti / tataḥ sarvajñaṃ sarvaśakti brahmaiva sarvakāraṇam ity upadiśan sa hovāca sad eva somyedam agra āsīd ekam evādvitīyam iti / atredam iti jagan nirdiṣṭam / agra iti ca sṛṣṭeḥ pūrvakālaḥ / tasmin kāle jagataḥ sadātmakatāṃ sad eveti pratipādya, tatsṛṣṭikāle 'py aviśiṣṭam iti kṛtvaikam eveti sadāpannasya jagatas tadānīm avibhaktanāmarūpatāṃ pratipādya tatpratipādanenaiva sato jagadupādānatvaṃ pratipāditam iti svavyatiriktanimittakāraṇam advitīyapadena pratiṣiddham /(RVas_16)

tam ādeśam prākṣyo yenāśrutaṃ śrutaṃ bhavatītyādāv eva praśāstitaiva jagadupādānam iti hṛdi nihitam idānīm abhivyaktam / svayam eva jagadupādānaṃ jagannimittaṃ ca sat tad aikṣata bahu syāṃ prajāyeyeti / tad etacchabdavācyaṃ paraṃ brahma sarvajñaṃ sarvaśakti satyasaṅkalpam avāptasamastakāmam api līlārthaṃ vicitrānantacidacinmiśrajagadrūpeṇāham eva bahu syāṃ tadarthaṃ prajāyeyeti svayam eva saṃkalpya svāṃśaikadeśād eva viyadādibhūtāni sṛṣṭvā punar api saiva sacchabdābhihitā parā devataivam aikṣata hantāham imās tisro devatā anena jīvenātmanānupraviśya nāmarūpe vyākaravāṇīti / anena jīvenātmaneti - jīvasya brahmātmakatvaṃ pratipādya brahmātmajīvānupraveśād eva kṛtsnasyācidvastunaḥ padārthatvam evaṃbhūtasyaiva sarvasya vastuno nāmabhāktvam iti ca darśayati / etaduktaṃ bhavati -- jīvātmā tu brahmaṇaḥ śarīratayā prakāratvād brahmātmakaḥ / yasyātmā śarīram iti śrutyantarāt / evaṃbhūtasya jīvasya śarīratayā prakārabhūtāni devamanuṣyādisaṃsthānāni vastūnīti brahmātmakāni tāni sarvāṇi / ato devo manuṣyo rākṣasaḥ paśur mṛgaḥ pakṣī vṛkṣo latā kāṣṭhaṃ śilā tṛṇaṃ ghaṭaḥ paṭa ityādayaḥ sarve prakṛtipratyayayogenābhidhāyakatayā prasiddhāḥ śabdā loke tattadvācyatayā pratīyamānatattatsaṃsthānavastumukhena tadabhimānijīvatadantaryāmiparamātmaparyantasaṃghātasyaiva vācakā iti /(RVas_17)

evaṃ samastacidacidātmakaprapañcasya sadupādānatāsannimittatāsadādhāratāsanniyamyatāsaccheṣatādi sarvaṃ ca sanmūlāḥ somyemāḥ sarvāḥ prajāḥ sadāyatanāḥ satpratiṣṭhā ityādinā vistareṇa pratipādya kāryakāraṇabhāvādimukhenāitadātmyam idaṃ sarvaṃ tatsatyam iti kṛtsnasya jagato brahmātmakatvam eva satyam iti pratipādya kṛtsnasya jagataḥ sa evātmā kṛtsnaṃ jagat tasya śarīraṃ tasmāt tvaṃśabdavācyam api jīvaprakāraṃ brahmaiveti sarvasya brahmātmakatvaṃ pratijñātaṃ tat tvam asīti jīvaviśeṣa upasaṃhṛtam /(RVas_18)

etad uktaṃ bhavati / aitadātmyam idaṃ sarvam iti cetanācetanaprapañcam idaṃ sarvam iti nirdiśya tasya prapañcasyaiṣa ātmeti pratipāditaḥ, prapañcoddeśena brahmātmakatvaṃ patipāditam ityarthaḥ / tad idaṃ brahmātmakatvaṃ kim ātmaśarīrabhāvenota svarūpeṇeti vivecanīyam / svarūpeṇa ced brahmaṇaḥ satyasaṅkalpādyaḥ -- tad aikṣata bahu syaṃ prajāyeyety upakramāvagatā bādhitā bhavanti / śarīrātmabhāvena ca tad ātmakatvaṃ śrutyantarād viśeṣato 'vagatam antaḥpraviṣṭaḥ śāstā janānāṃ sarvātmeti praśāsitṛtvarūpātmatvena sarveṣāṃ janānām antaḥpraviṣṭo 'taḥ sarvātmā sarveṣāṃ janānām ātmā sarvaṃ cāsya śarīram iti viśeṣato jñāyate brahmātmakatvam / ya ātmani tiṣṭhann ātmano 'ntaro yam ātmā na veda yasyātmā śarīraṃ ya ātmānam antaro yamayati sa ta ātmāntaryāmyamṛta iti ca / atrāpy anena jīvenātmanetīdam eva jñāyata iti pūrvam evoktam / ataḥ sarvasya cidacidvastuno brahmaśarīratvāt sarvaprakāraṃ sarvaśabdair brahmaivābhidhīyata iti tat tvam iti sāmānādhikaraṇyena jīvaśarīratayā jīvaprakāraṃ brahmaivābhihitam /(RVas_19)

aśrutavedāntāḥ puruṣāḥ padārthāḥ sarve jīvātmanaś ca brahmātmakā iti na paśyati sarvaśabdānāṃ ca kevaleṣu tattatpadārtheṣu vācyaikadeśeṣu vācyaparyavasānaṃ manyante / idānīṃ vedāntavākyaśravaṇena brahmakāryatayā tadantaryāmitayā ca sarvasya brahmātmakatvaṃ sarvaśabdānāṃ tattatprakārasaṃsthitabrahmavācitvaṃ ca jānanti / nanv evaṃ gavādiśabdānāṃ tattatpadārthavācitayā vyutpattir bādhitā syāt / naivaṃ sarve śabdā acijjīvaviśiṣṭasya paramātmano vācakā ity uktam / nāmarūpe vyākaravāṇīty atra / tatra laukikāḥ puruṣāḥ śabdaṃ vyāharantaḥ śabdavācye pradhānāṃśasya paramātmanaḥ pratyakṣādyaparicchedyatvād vācyaikadeśabhūte vācyasamāptiṃ manyante / vedāntaśravaṇena ca vyutpattiḥ pūryate / evam eva vaidikāḥ sarve śabdāḥ paramātmaparyantān svārthān bodhayanti / vaidikā eva sarve śabdā vedādav uddhṛtyoddhṛtya pareṇaiva brahmaṇā sarvapadārthān pūrvavat sṛṣṭvā teṣu paramātmaparyanteṣu pūrvavan nāmatayā prayuktāḥ / tad āha manuḥ -- sarveṣāṃ tu nāmāni karmāṇi ca pṛthak pṛthak / vedaśabdebhya evādau pṛthaksaṃsthāś ca nirmame // iti / saṃsthāḥ saṃsthānāni rūpāṇīti yāvat / āha ca bhagavān parāśaraḥ -- nāma rūpaṃ bhūtānāṃ kṛtyānāṃ prapañcanam / vedaśabdebhya evādau daivādīnāṃ cakāra saḥ // iti / śrutiś ca -- sūryācandramasau dhātā yathāpūrvam akalpayad iti / sūryādīn pūrvavat parikalpya nāmāni ca pūrvavac cakāra ityarthaḥ /(RVas_21)

nanu ca parasya brahmaṇaḥ svarūpeṇa pariṇāmāspadatvaṃ nirvikāratvaniravadyatvaśrutivyākopaprasañgena nivāritam / prakṛtiś ca pratijñādṛṣṭāntānuparodhād ity ekavijñānena sarvavijñānapratijñānamṛttatkāryadṛṣṭāntābhyāṃ paramapuruṣasya jagadupādānakāraṇatvaṃ ca pratipāditam / upādānakāraṇatvaṃ ca pariṇāmāspadatvam eva / katham idam upapadyate /(RVas_70)

tathā ca sati kāraṇāvastha īśvara eveti tadupādānakajagatkāryāvastho 'pi sa eveti kāryakāraṇayor ananyatvaṃ sarvaśrutyavirodhaś ca bhavati / tad evaṃ nāmarūpavibhāgānarhasūkṣmadaśāpannaprakṛtipuruṣaśarīraṃ brahma kāraṇāvasthaṃ, jagatas tadāpattir eva ca pralayaḥ / nāmarūpavibhāgavibhaktasthūlacidacidvastuśarīraṃ brahma kāryatvaṃ, brahmaṇas tathāvidhasthūlabhāva eva jagataḥ sṛṣṭir ity ucyate / yathoktaṃ bhagavatā parāśareṇa -- pradhānapuṃsor ajayoḥ kāraṇaṃ kāryabhūtayoḥ / iti /(RVas_74)

tasmād īśvaraprakārabhūtasarvāvasthaprakṛtipuruṣavācinaḥ śabdās tatprakāraviśiṣṭatayāvasthite paramātmani mukhyatayā vartante / jīvātmavācidevamanuṣyaśabdavat / yathā devamanuṣyādiśabdā devamanuṣyādiprakṛtipariṇāmaviśeṣāṇāṃ jīvātmaprakāratayaiva padārthatvāt prakāriṇi jīvātmani mukhyatayā vartante / tasmāt sarvasya cidacidvastunaḥ paramātmaśarīratayā tatprakāratvāt paramātmani mukhyatayā vartante sarve vācakāḥ śabdāḥ /(RVas_75)

atyalpam etat - vedavitpravaraproktavākyanyāyopabṛṃhitāḥ / vedāḥ sāṅgā hariṃ prāhur jagajjanmādikāraṇaṃ // janmādyasya yataḥ -- yato vā imāni bhūtāni jāyante, yena jātāni jīvanti, yat prayanty abhisaṃviśanti, tad vijijñānasva tad brahmeti jagajjanmādikāraṇaṃ brahmety avagamyate / tac ca jagatsṛṣṭipralayaprakaraṇeṣv avagantavyam / sad eva somyedam agra āsīd ekam evādvitīyam iti jagadupādānatājagannimittatājagadantaryāmitādimukhena paramakāraṇaṃ sacchabdena praitpāditaṃ brahmety avagatam / ayam evārthaḥ -- brahma vā idam ekam evāgra āsīd iti śākhāntare brahmaśabdena pratipaditaḥ / anena sacchabdenābhihitaṃ brahmety avagatam / ayam evārthas tathā śākhāntara ātmā vā idam eka evāgra āsīn nānyat kiṃcana miṣad iti sadbrahmaśabdābhyām ātmaivābhihita ity avagamyate / tathā ca śākhāntara eko ha vai nārāyaṇa āsīn na brahma neśāno neme dyāvapṛthivī na nakṣatrāṇīti sadbrahmātmādiparamakāraṇavādibhiḥ śabdair nārāyaṇa evābhidhīyata iti niścīyate /(RVas_96)

api ca kāryavākyārthavādibhiḥ kim idaṃ kāryatvaṃ nāmeti vaktavyam / kṛtibhāvabhāvitā kṛtyuddeśyatā ceti cet / kim idaṃ kṛtyuddeśyatvam / yad adhikṛtya kṛtir vartate tat kṛtyuddeśyatvam iti cet / puruṣavyāpārarūpāyāḥ kṛteḥ ko 'yam adhikāro nāma / yatprāptīcchayā kṛtim utpādayati puruṣaḥ tat kṛtyuddeśyatvam iti ced dhanta tarhīṣṭatvam eva kṛtyuddeśyatvam / athaivaṃ manuṣe iṣṭasyaiva rūpadvayam asti / icchāviṣayatayā sthitiḥ puruṣaprerakatvaṃ ca / tatra prerakatvākāraḥ kṛtyuddeśyatvam iti so 'yaṃ svapakṣābhiniveśakārito vṛthāśramaḥ / tathā hīcchāviṣayatayā pratītasya svaprayatnotpattim antareṇāsiddhir eva prerakatvam / tata eva pravṛtteḥ / icchāyāṃ jātāyām iṣṭasya svaprayatnotpattim antareṇāsiddhiḥ pratīyate cet tataś cikīrṣā jāyate tataḥ pravartate puruṣa iti tattvavidāṃ prakriyā / tasmād iṣṭasya kṛtyadhīnātmalābhatvātireki kṛtyuddeśyatvaṃ nāma kim pi na dṛṣyate / athocyate -- iṣṭatāhetuś ca puruṣānukūlatā / tatpuruṣānukūlatvaṃ kṛtyuddeśyatvam iti cet / naivam / puruṣānukūlaṃ sukham ity anarthāntaram / tathā puruṣānukūlaṃ duḥkhaparyāyam / ataḥ sukhavyatiriktasya kasyāpi puruṣānukūlatvaṃ na saṃbhavati / nanu ca duḥkhanivṛtter api sukhavyatiriktāyāḥ puruṣānukūlatā dṛṣṭā / naitat / ātmānukūlaṃ sukham ātmapratikūlaṃ duḥkham iti hi sukhaduḥkhayor vivekaḥ / tatrātmānukūlaṃ sukham iṣṭaṃ bhavati / tatpratikūlaṃ duḥkhaṃ cāniṣṭam / ato duḥkhasaṃyogasyāsahyatayā tannivṛttir apīṣṭā bhavati / tata eveṣṭatāsāmyād anukūlatābhramaḥ / tathā hi -- prakṛtisaṃsṛṣṭasya saṃsāriṇaḥ puruṣasyānukūlasaṃyogaḥ pratikūlasaṃyogaḥ svarūpeṇāvasthitir iti ca tisro 'vasthāḥ / tatra pratikūlasaṃbandhanivṛttiś cānukūlasaṃbandhanivṛttiś ca svarūpeṇāvasthitir eva / tasmāt pratikūlasaṃyoge vartamāne tannivṛttirūpā svarūpeṇāvasthitir apīṣṭā bhavati / tatreṣṭatāsāmyād anukūlatābhramaḥ /(RVas_119)

ataḥ sukharūpatvād anukūlatāyāḥ niyogasyānukūlatāṃ vadantaṃ prāmāṇikāḥ parihasanti / iṣṭasyārthaviśeṣasya nivartakatayaiva hi niyogasya niyogatvaṃ sthiratvam apūrvatvaṃ ca pratīyate / svargakāmo yajetety atra kāryasya kriyātiriktā svargakāmapadasamabhivyāhāreṇa svargasādhanatvaniścayād eva bhavanti / na ca vācyaṃ yajetety atra prathamaṃ niyogaḥ svapradhānatayaiva pratīyate svargakāmapadasamabhivyāhārāt svasiddhaye svargasiddhyanukūlatā ca niyogasyeti / yajeteti hi dhātvarthasya puruṣaprayatnasādhyatā pratīyate / svargakāmapadasamabhivyāhārād eva dhātvarthātirekiṇo niyogatvaṃ sthiratvam apūrvatvaṃ cetyādi / tac ca svargasādhanatvapratītinibandhanam / samabhivyāhṛtasvargakāmapadārthānvayayogyaṃ svargasādhanam eva kāryaṃ liṅādayo 'bhidadhatīti lokavyutpattir api tiraskṛtā / etad uktaṃ bhavati -- samabhivyahṛtapadāntaravācyārthānvayayogyam evetarapadapratipādyam ityanvitābhidhāyipadasaṃghātarūpavākyaśravaṇasaman antaram eva pratīyate / tac ca svargasādhanarūpam / ataḥ kriyāvad ananyārthatāpi virodhād eva parityakteti / ata eva gaṅgāyāṃ ghoṣa ityādau ghoṣaprativāsayogyārthopasthāpanaparatvaṃ gaṅgāpadasyāśrīyate / prathamaṃ gaṅgāpadena gaṅgārthaḥ smṛta iti gaṅgāpadārthasya peyatvaṃ na vākyārthānvayībhavati / evam atra api yajetetyetāvanmātraśravaṇe kāryam ananyārthaṃ smṛtam iti vākyārthānvayasamaye kāryasyānanyārthatā nāvatiṣṭhate / kāryābhidhāyipadaśravaṇavelāyāṃ prathamaṃ kāryam ananyārthaṃ pratītam ity etad api na saṃgacchate / vyutpattikāle gavānayanādikriyāyā duḥkharūpāyā iṣṭaviśeṣasādhanatayaiva kāryatāpratīteḥ / ato niyogasya puruṣānukūlatvaṃ sarvalokaviruddhaṃ niyogasya sukharūpapuruṣānukūlatāṃ vadataḥ svānubhavavirodhaś ca / karīryā vṛṣṭikāmo yajeytetyādiṣu siddhe 'pi niyoge vṛṣṭyādisiddhinimittasya vṛṣṭivyatirekeṇa niyogasyānukūlatā nānubhūyate / yady apy asmiñ janmani vṛṣṭyādisiddher aniyamas tathāpy aniyamād eva niyogasiddhir avaśyāśrayaṇīyā / tasminn anukūlatāparyāyasukhānubhūtir na dṛśyate / evam uktarītyā kṛtisādhyeṣṭatvātireki kṛtyuddeśyatvaṃ na dṛśyate /(RVas_120)

kiṃ ca liṅādiśabdavācyaṃ sthāyirūpaṃ kim ity apūrvam āśrīyate / svargakāmapadasamabhivyāhārānupapatter iti cet / kātrānupapattiḥ / siṣādhayiṣitasvargo hi svargakāmaḥ / tasya svargakāmasya kālāntarabhāvisvargasiddhau kṣaṇabhaṅginī yāgādikriyā na samartheti cet / anāghrātavedasiddhāntānām iyam anupapattiḥ / sarvaiḥ karmabhir ārādhitaḥ parameśvaro bhagavān nārāyaṇas tattadiṣṭaṃ phalaṃ dadātīti vedavido vadanti / yathāhur vedavidagresarā dramiḍācāryāḥ -- phalasaṃbibhatsayā hi karmabhir ātmānaṃ piprīṣanti sa prīto 'laṃ phalāyeti śāstramaryādā iti / phalasaṃbandhecchayā karmabhir yāgadānahomādibhir indriyādidevatāmukhena tattadantaryāmirūpeṇāvasthitam indrādiśabdavācyaṃ paramātmānaṃ bhagavantaṃ vāsudevam ārirādhayiṣanti, sa hi karmabhir ārādhitas teṣām iṣṭāni phalāni prayacchatītyarthaḥ / tathā ca śrutiḥ -- iṣṭāpūrtaṃ bahudhā jātaṃ jāyamānaṃ viśvaṃ bibharti bhuvanasya nābhir iti / iṣṭāpūrtam iti sakalaśrutismṛticoditaṃ karmocyate / tadviśvaṃ bibharti -- indrāgnivaruṇādisarvadevatāsaṃbandhitayā pratīyamānaṃ tattadantarātmatayāvasthitaḥ paramapuruṣaḥ svayam eva bibharti svayam eva svīkaroti / bhuvanasya nābhiḥ -- brahmakṣatrādisarvavarṇapūrṇasya bhuvanasya dhārakaḥ -- tais taiḥ karmabhir ārādhitas tattadiṣṭaphalapradānena bhuvanānāṃ dhāraka iti nābhir ityuktaḥ / agnivāyuprabhṛtidevatāntarātmatayā tattacchabdābhidheyo 'yam evety āha -- tad evāgnis tadvāyus tatsūryas tad u candramā iti / yathoktaṃ bhagavatā -- yo yo yām yāṃ tanuṃ bhaktaḥ śraddhayārcitum icchati / tasya tasyācalāṃ śraddhāṃ tām eva vidadhāmy aham // sa tasya śraddhayā yuktas tasyārādhanam īhate / labhate ca tataḥ kāmān mayaiva vihitān iha tān // iti / yāṃ yāṃ tanum itīndrādidevatāviśeṣās tattadantaryāmitayāvasthitasya bhagavatas tanavaḥ śarīrāṇītyarthaḥ / ahaṃ hi sarvayajñānāṃ bhoktā ca prabhur eva ca / ityādi / prabhur eva ceti sarvaphalānāṃ pradātā cetyarthaḥ / yathā ca yajñais tvam ijyase nityaṃ sarvadevamayācyuta / yaiḥ svadharmaparair nātha narair ādādhito bhavān / te taranty akhilām etāṃ mayām ātmavimuktaye // iti / setihāsapurāṇeṣu sarveṣv eva vedeṣu sarvāṇi karmāṇi sarveśvarārādhanarūpāṇi, tais taiḥ karmabhir ārādhitaḥ puruṣottamas tattadiṣṭaṃ phalaṃ dadātīti tatra tatra prapañcitam / evam hi sarvaśaktiṃ sarvajñaṃ sarveśvaraṃ bhagavantam indrādidevatāntaryāmirūpeṇa yāgadānahomādivedoditasarvakarmaṇāṃ bhoktāraṃ sarvaphalānāṃ pradātāraṃ ca sarvāḥ śrutayo vadanti / caturhotāro yatra saṃpadaṃ gacchanti devair ityādyāḥ / caturhotāro yajñāḥ, yatra paramātmani deveṣv antaryāmirūpeṇāvasthite, devaiḥ saṃpadaṃ gacchanti -- devaiḥ saṃbandhaṃ gacchanti yajñā ityarthaḥ / antaryāmirūpeṇāvasthitasya paramātmanaḥ śarīratayāvasthitānām indrādīnāṃ yāgādisaṃbandha ity uktaṃ bhavati / yathoktaṃ bhagavatā -- bhoktāraṃ yajñatapasāṃ sarvalokamaheśvaram / iti / tasmād agnyādidevatāntarātmabhūtaparamapuruṣārādhanarūpabhūtāni sarvāṇi karmāṇi, sa eva cābhilaṣitaphalapradāteti kim atrāpūrveṇa vyutpattipathadūravartinā vācyatayābhyupagatena kalpitena vā prayojanam / evaṃ ca sati liṅādeḥ ko 'yam arthaḥ parigṛhīto bhavati / yaja devapūjāyām iti devatārādhanabhūtayāgādeḥ prakṛtyarthasya kartṛvyāpārasādhyatāṃ vyutpattisiddhāṃ liṅādayo 'bhidadhatīti na kiṃcid anupapannam / kartṛvācināṃ pratyayānāṃ prakṛtyarthasya kartṛvyāpārasaṃbandhaprakāro hi vācyaḥ / bhūtavartamānādikam anye vadanti / liṅādayas tu kartṛvyāpārasādhyatāṃ vadanti /(RVas_124)

api ca kāminaḥ kartavyatā karma vidhāya karmaṇo devatārādhanarūpatāṃ taddvārā phalasaṃbhavaṃ ca tattatkarmavidhivākyāny eva vadanti / vāyavyaṃ śvetam ālabhata bhūtikāmo vāyur vai kṣepiṣṭhā devatā vāyum eva svena bhāgadheyenopadhāvati sa evainaṃ bhūtiṃ gamayatītyādīni / nātra phalasiddhyanupapattiḥ kāpi dṛśyata iti phalasādhanatvāvagatir aupādānikīty api na saṃgacchati / vidhyapekṣitaṃ yāgādeḥ phalasādhanatvaprakāraṃ vākyaśeṣa eva bodhayatītyarthaḥ / tasmād brāhmaṇāya nāpaguretety atrāpagoraṇaniṣedhavidhiparavākyaśeṣe śrūyamāṇaṃ niṣedhyasyāpagoraṇasya śatayātanāsādhanatvaṃ niṣedhavidhyupayogīti hi svīkriyate / atra punaḥ kāminaḥ kartavyatayā vihitasya yāgādeḥ kāmyasvargādisādhanatvaprakāraṃ vākyaśeṣāvagatam anādṛtya kim ity upādānena yāgādeḥ phalasādhanatvaṃ parikalpyate / hiraṇyanidhim apavarake nidhāya yācate kodravādilubdhaḥ kṛpaṇaṃ janam iti śrūyate tad etad yuṣmāsu dṛśyate / śatayātanāsādhanatvam api nādṛṣṭadvāreṇa / coditāny anutiṣṭho vihitaṃ karmākurvato ninditāni ca kurvataḥ sarvāṇi sukhāni duḥkhāni ca paramapuruṣānugrahanigrahābhyām eva bhavanti / eṣa hy evānandayati -- atho so 'bhayaṃ gato bhavati -- atha tasya bhayaṃ bhavati -- bhīṣāsmād vātaḥ pavate bhīṣodeti sūryo bhīṣāsmād agniś candraś ca mṛtyur dhāvati pañcamaḥ -- iti / etasya vā akṣarasya praśāsane gārgi sūryācandramasau vidhṛtau tiṣṭhataḥ -- etasya vā akṣarasya praśāsane gārgi dadato manuṣyāḥ praśaṃsanti yajamānaṃ devā darvīṃ pitaro 'nvāyattā ityādyanekavidhāḥ śrutayaḥ santi / yathoktaṃ dramiḍabhāṣye -- tasyājñayā dhāvati vāyur nadyaḥ sravanti tena ca kṛtasīmāno jalāśayāḥ samadā iva meṣavirsapitaṃ kurvantīti / tatsaṃkalpanibandhanā hīme loke na cyavante na sphuṭante / svaśāsanānuvartināṃ jñātvā kāruṇyāt sa bhagavān vardhayeta vidvān karmadakṣa iti ca /(RVas_125)

paramapuruṣayāthātmyajñānapūrvakatadupāsanādivihitakarmānuṣṭhāyinas tatprasādāt tatprāptiparyantāni sukhāny abhayaṃ ca yathādhikāraṃ bhavanti / tajjñānapūrvakaṃ tadupāsanādivihitaṃ karmākurvato ninditāni ca kurvatas tannigrahād eva tadaprāptipūrvakāparimitaduḥkhāni bhayaṃ ca bhavanti / yathoktaṃ bhagavatā -- niyataṃ kuru karma tvaṃ karma jyāyo hy akarmaṇaḥ / ityādinā kṛtsnaṃ karma jñānapūrvakam anuṣṭheyaṃ vidhāya -- mayi sarvāṇi karmāṇi saṃnyasya iti sarvasya karmaṇaḥ svārādhanatām ātmanāṃ svaniyāmyatāṃ ca pratipādya -- ye me matam idaṃ nityam anutiṣṭhanti mānavāḥ / śraddhāvanto 'nasūyanto mucyante te 'pi karmabhiḥ // ye tv etadabhyasūyanto nānutiṣṭhanti me matam / sarvajñānavimūḍhāṃs tān viddhi naṣṭān acetasaḥ // iti svājñānuvartinaḥ praśasya viparītān vinindya punar api svājñānupālanam akurvatām āsur aprakṛtyantarbhāvam abhidhāyādhamā gatiś coktā -- tān ahaṃ dviṣataḥ krūrān saṃsāreṣu narādhamān / kṣipāmy ajasram aśubhān āsurīṣv eva yoniṣu // āsurīṃ yonim āpannā mūḍhā janmani janmani / mām aprāpyaiva kaunteya tato yānty adhamāṃ gatim // iti / sarvakarmāṇy api sadā kurvāṇo madvypāśrayaḥ / matprasādād avāpnoti śāśvataṃ padam avyayam // iti ca svājñānuvartināṃ śāśvataṃ padaṃ coktam / aśrutavedāntānāṃ karmaṇy aśraddhā mā bhūd iti devatādhikaraṇe 'tivādāḥ kṛtāḥ karmamātre yathā śraddhā syād iti sarvam ekaśāstram iti vedavitsiddhāntaḥ /(RVas_126)

tasyaitasya parasya brahmaṇo nārāyaṇasyāparicchedyajñānānandāmalatvasvarūpavajjñānaśaktibalāiśvaryavīryatejaḥprabhṛtyanavadhikātiśayāsaṃkhyeyakalyāṇaguṇavatsvasaṃkalpapravartyasvetarasamastacidacidvastujātavatsvābhimatasvānurūpaikarūpadivyarūpataducitaniratiśayakalyāṇavividhānaṃtabhūṣaṇasvaśaktisadṛśāparimitānantāścaryanānāvidhāyudhasvābhimatānurūpasvarūpaguṇavibhavāiśvaryaśīlādyanavadhikamahimamahisīsvānurūpakalyāṇajñānakriyādyaparimeyaguṇānantaparijanaparicchedasvocitanikhilabhogyabhogopakaraṇādyanantamahāvibhavāvāṅmanasagocarasvarūpasvabhāvadivyasthānādinityatāniravadyatāgocarāś ca sahasraśaḥ śrutayaḥ santi / vedāham etaṃ puruṣaṃ mahāntam ādityavarṇaṃ tamasaḥ parastāt / ya eṣo 'ntarāditye hiraṇmayaḥ puruṣaḥ / tasya yathā kapyāsaṃ puṇḍarīkam evam akṣiṇī / ya eṣo 'ntarhṛdaya ākāśas tasminn ayaṃ puruṣo manomayo 'mṛto hiraṇmayaḥ -- manomaya iti manasaiva viśuddhena gṛhyata ityarthaḥ -- sarve nimeṣā jajñire vidyutaḥ puruṣād adhi -- vidyudvarṇāt puruṣād ityarthaḥ -- nīlatoyadamadhyasthā vidyullekheva bhāsvarā -- madhyasthanīlatoyadā vidyullekheva seyaṃ daharapuṇḍarīkamadhyasthākāśavartinī vahnirśikhā svāntarnihitanīlatoyadābhaparamātmasvarūpā avāntarnihitanīlatoyadā visyud ivābhātītyarthaḥ / manomayaḥ prāṇaśarīro bhārūpaḥ / satyakāmaḥ satyasaṃkalpaḥ / ākāśātmā sarvakāmā sarvakāmaḥ sarvagandhaḥ sarvarasaḥ sarvam idam abhyātto 'vākyānādaraḥ / māhārajanaṃ vāsa ityādyāḥ / asyeśānā jagato viṣṇupatnī / hrīś ca te lakṣmīś ca patnyau /tadviṣṇoḥ paramaṃ padaṃ sadā paśyanti sūrayaḥ / kṣayantam asya rajasaḥ parāke / yad ekam avyaktam anantarūpaṃ viśvaṃ purāṇaṃ tamasaḥ parastāt / yo veda nihitaṃ guhāyāṃ parame vyoman / yo 'syādhyakṣaḥ parame vyoman / tad eva tad u bhavyamā idaṃ tadakṣare parame vyoman nityādiśrutiśataniścito 'yam arthaḥ /(RVas_127)

vākyakāraiś caitatsarvaṃ suspaṣṭam āha -- hiraṇyamayaḥ puruṣo dṛśyata iti prājñaḥ sarvāntaraḥ syāl lokakāmeśopadeśāt tathodayāt pāpmanām ityādinā / tasya ca rūpasyānityatādi vākyakāreṇaiva pratiṣiddham -- syāt tadrūpaṃ kṛtakam anugrahārthaṃ taccetanānām aiśvaryād ity upāsitur anugrahārthaḥ paramapuruṣasya rūpasaṃgraha iti pūrvapakṣaṃ kṛtvā, rūpaṃ vātīndriyam antaḥkaraṇapratyakṣaṃ tannirdeśād iti / yathā jñānādayaḥ parasya brahmaṇaḥ svarūpatayā nirdeśāt svarūpabhūtaguṇās tathedam api rūpaṃ śrutyā svarūpatayā nirdeśāt svarūpabhūtam ityarthaḥ / bhāṣyakāreṇaitad vyākhyātam -- añjasaiva viśvasṛjo rūpaṃ tat tu na cakṣuṣā grāhyaṃ manasā tv akaluṣeṇa sādhanāntaravatā gṛhyate, na cakṣuṣā gṛhyate nāpi vācā manasā tu viśuddheneti śruteḥ, na hy rūpāyā devatāyā rūpam upadiśyate, yathābhūtavādi hi śāstram, mahārajanaṃ vāsaḥ -- vedāham etaṃ puruṣaṃ mahāntam ādityavarṇaṃ tamasaḥ parastād iti prakaraṇāntaranirdeśāc ca sākṣiṇa ityādinā hiraṇyamaya iti rūpasāmānyāc candramukhavat, na mayaḍ atra vikāram ādāya prayujyate, anārabhyatvād ātmana iti / yathā jñānādikalyāṇaguṇagaṇānantaryanirdeśād aparimitakalyāṇaguṇagaṇaviśiṣṭaṃ paraṃ brahmety avagamyata evam ādityavarṇaṃ puruṣam ityādinirdeśāt svābhimatasvānurūpakalyāṇatamarūpaḥ parabrahmabhūtaḥ puruṣottamo nārāyaṇa iti jñāyate / tathāsyeśanā jagato viṣṇupatnī -- hrīś ca te lakṣmīś ca patnyau -- sadā paśyanti sūrayaḥ -- tamasaḥ parastāt -- kṣayantam asya rajasaḥ parāka ityādinā patnīparijanasthānādīnāṃ nirdeśād eva tathaiva santīty avagamyate / yathāha bhāṣyakāra -- yathābhūtavādi hi śāstram iti /(RVas_135)

vedāḥ pramāṇaṃ ced vidhyarthavādamantragataṃ sarvam apūrvam aviruddham arthajātaṃ yathāvasthitam eva bodhayanti / prāmāṇyaṃ ca vedānām autpattikas tu śabdasyārthena saṃbandha ityuktam / yathāgnijalādīnām auṣṇyādiśaktiyogaḥ svābhāvikaḥ, yathā ca cakṣurādīnām indriyāṇāṃ buddhiviśeṣajanaśaktiḥ svābhāvikī tathā śabdasyāpi bodhanaśaktiḥ svābhāvikī / na ca hastaceṣṭādivat saṃketamūlaṃ śabdasya bodhakatvam iti vaktuṃ śakyam / anādyanusaṃdhānāvicchede 'pi saṃketayitṛpuruṣājñānāt / yāni saṃketamūlāni tāni sarvāṇi sākṣād vā paraṃparayā vā jñāyante / na ca devadattādiśabdavat kalpayituṃ yuktam / teṣu ca sākṣād vā paraṃparayā vā saṃketo jñāyate / gavādiśabdānāṃ tv anādyanusaṃdhānāvicchede 'pi saṃketājñānād eva bodhakatvaśaktiḥ svābhāvikī / ato 'gnyādīnāṃ dāhakatvādiśaktivad indriyāṇāṃ bodhakatvaśaktivac ca śabdasyāpi bodhakatvaśaktir āśrayaṇīyā //(RVas_137)

evam itihāsapurāṇadharmaśāstropabṛṃhitasāṅgavedavedyaḥ parabrahmabhūto nārāyaṇo nikhilaheyapratyanīkaḥ sakaletaravilakṣaṇo 'paricchinnajñānānandaikasvarūpaḥ svābhāvikānavadhikātiśayāsaṃkhyeyakalyāṇaguṇagaṇākaraḥ svasaṃkalpānuvidhāyisvarūpasthitipravṛttibhedacidacidvastujāto 'paricchedyasvarūpasvabhāvānantamahāvibhūtir nānāvidhānantacetanācetanātmakaprapañcalīlopakaraṇa iti pratipāditam / sarvaṃ khalv idaṃ brahma -- aitadātmyam idaṃ sarvaṃ -- tat tvam asi śvetaketo -- enam eke vadanty agniṃ maruto 'nyo prajāpatim / indram eke pare prāṇam apare brahma śāśvatam // jyotīṃṣi śuklāni ca yāni loke trayo lokā lokapālās trayī ca / trayo 'gnayaś cāhutayaś ca pañca sarve deva devakīputra eva // tvaṃ yajñas tvaṃ vaṣaṭkāras tvam oṃkāraḥ paraṃtapaḥ / ṛtudhāmā vasuḥ pūrvo vasūnāṃ tvaṃ prajāpatiḥ // jagatsarvaṃ śarīraṃ te sthairyaṃ te vasudhātalam / agniḥ kopaḥ prasādas te somaḥ śrīvatsalakṣaṇaḥ // jyotīṃṣi viṣṇur bhuvanāni viṣṇur vanāni viṣṇur girayo diśaś ca / nadyaḥ samudrāś ca sa eva sarvaṃ yad asti yan nāsti ca vipravarya // ityādisāmānādhikaraṇyaprayogeṣu sarvaiḥ śabdaiḥ sarvaśarīratayā sarvaprakāraṃ brahmaivābhidhīyata iti coktam / satyasaṃkalapaṃ paraṃ brahma svayam eva bahuprakāraṃ syām iti saṃkalpyācitsamaṣṭirūpamahābhūtasūkṣmavastu bhoktṛvargasamūhaṃ ca svasmin pralīnaṃ svayam eva vibhajya tasmād bhūtasūkṣmād vāstuno mahābhūtāni sṛṣṭvā teṣu ca bhoktṛvargātmatayā praveśya taiścid adhiṣṭhitair mahābhūtair anyonyasaṃsṛṣṭaiḥ kṛtsnaṃ jagad vidhāya svayam api sarvasyātmatayā praviśya paramātmatvenāvasthitaṃ sarvaśarīraṃ bahuprakāram avatiṣṭhate / yad idaṃ mahābhūtasūkṣmaṃ vastu tad eva prakṛtiśabdenābhidhīyate / bhoktṛvargasamūha eva puruṣaśabdena cocyate / tau ca prakṛtipuruṣau paramātmaśarīratayā paramātmaprakārabhūtau / tatprakāraḥ paramātmaiva prakṛtipuruṣaśabdābhideyaḥ / so 'kāmayata bahu syāṃ prajāyeyeti -- tatsṛṣṭvā tad evānupraviśat -- tad anupraviśya sac ca tyac cābhavan niruktaṃ cāniruktaṃ ca nilayanaṃ cānilayanaṃ ca vijñānaṃ cāvijñānaṃ ca satyaṃ cānṛtaṃ ca satyam abhavad iti pūrvoktaṃ sarvam anayaiva śrutyā vyaktam /(RVas_140)

brahmaprāptyupāyaś ca śāstrādhigatatattvajñānapūrvakasvakarmānugṛhītabhaktiniṣṭhāsādhyānavadhikātiśayapriyaviśadatamapratyakṣatāpannānudhyānarūpaparabhaktir evetyuktam / bhaktiśabdaś ca prītiviśeṣe vartate / prītiś ca jñānaviśeṣa eva / nanu ca sukhaṃ prītir ityanarthāntaram / sukhaṃ ca jñānaviśeṣasādhyaṃ padārthāntaram iti hi laukikāḥ / naivam / yena jñānaviśeṣeṇa tatsādhyam ity ucyate sa eva jñānaviśeṣaḥ sukham /(RVas_141)

etad uktaṃ bhavati -- viṣayajñānāni sukhaduḥkhamadhyasādhāraṇāni / tāni ca viṣayādhīnaviśeṣāṇi tathā bhavanti / yena ca viṣayaviśeṣeṇa viśeṣitaṃ jñānaṃ sukhasya janakam ity abhimataṃ tadviṣayaṃ jñānam eva sukhaṃ, tadatireki padārthāntaraṃ nopalabhyate / tenaiva sukhitvavyavahāropapatteś ca / evaṃvidhasukhasvarūpajñānasya viśeṣakatvaṃ brahmavyatiriktasya vastunaḥ sātiśayam asthiraṃ ca / brahmaṇas tv anavadhikātiśayaṃ sthiraṃ ceti / ānando brahmety ucyate / viṣayāyattatvāj jñānasya sukhasvarūpatayā brahmaiva sukham / tad idam āha -- raso vai saḥ -- rasaṃ he evāyaṃ labdhvānandī bhavatīti brahmaiva sukham iti brahma labdhvā sukhī bhavatītyarthaḥ / paramapuruṣaḥ svenaiva svayam anavadhikātiśayasukhaḥ san parasyāpi sukhaṃ bhavati / sukhasvarūpatvāviśeṣāt / brahma yasya jñānaviṣayo bhavati sa sukhī bhavatītyarthaḥ / tad evaṃ parasya brahmaṇo 'navadhikātiśayāsaṃkhyeyakalyāṇaguṇagaṇākarasya niravadyasyānantamahāvibhūter anavadhikātiśayasauśīlyasaundaryavātsalyajaladheḥ sarvaśeṣitvād ātmanaḥ śeṣatvāt pratibaṃdhitayānusaṃdhīyamānam anavadhikātiśayaprītiviṣayaṃ sat paraṃ brahmaivainam ātmānaṃ prāpayatīti /(RVas_142)

nanu cātyantaśeṣataivātmano 'navadhikātiśayasukham ityuktaṃ bhavati / tad etat sarvalokaviruddham / tathā hi sarveṣām eva cetanānāṃ svātantryam eva iṣṭatamaṃ dṛśyate, pāratantryaṃ duḥkhataram / smṛtiś ca -- sarvaṃ paravaśam duḥkhaṃ sarvam ātmavaśaṃ sukham / tathā hi -- sevā śvavṛttir ākhyātā tasmāt tāṃ parivarjayet / iti / tad idam anadhigatadehātiriktātmarūpāṇāṃ śarīrātmābhimānavijṛmbhitam / tathā hi -- śarīraṃ hi manuṣyatvādijātiguṇāśrayapiṇḍabhūtaṃ svatantraṃ pratīyate / tasminn evāham iti saṃsāriṇāṃ pratītiḥ / ātmābhimāno yādṛśas tadanuguṇaiva puruṣārthapratītiḥ / siṃhavyāghravarāhamanuṣyayakṣarakṣaḥpiśācadevadānavastrīpuṃsavyavasthitātmābhimānānāṃ sukhāni vyavasthitāni / tāni ca parasparaviruddhāni / tasmād ātmābhimānānuguṇapuruṣārthavyavasthayā sarvaṃ samāhitam / ātmasvarūpaṃ tu devādidehavilakṣaṇaṃ jñānaikākāram / tac ca paraśeṣataikasvarūpam / yathāvasthitātmābhimāne tadanuguṇaiva puruṣārthapratītiḥ / ātmā jñānamayo 'mala iti smṛter jñānaikākāratā pratipannā / patiṃ viśvasyetyādi śrutiguṇaiḥ paramātmaśeṣataikākāratā ca pratītā / ataḥ siṃhavyāghrādiśarīrātmābhimānavat svātantryābhimāno 'pi karmakṛtaviparītātmajñānarūpo veditavyaḥ / ataḥ karmakṛtam eva paramapuruṣavyatiriktaviṣayāṇāṃ sukhatvam / ata eva teṣām alpatvam asthiratvaṃ ca paramapuruṣasyaiva svata eva sukhatvam / atas tad eva sthiram anavadhikātiśayaṃ ca -- kaṃ brahma khaṃ brahma -- ānando brahma -- satyaṃ jñānam anantaṃ brahmeti śruteḥ / brahmavyatiriktasya kṛtsnasya vastunaḥ svarūpeṇa sukhatvābhāvaḥ karmakṛtatvena cāsthiratvaṃ bhagavatā parāśareṇoktam -- narakasvargasaṃjñe vai pāpapuṇye dvijottama / vastv ekam eva duḥkhāya sukhāyerṣyāgamāya ca / kopāya ca yatas tasmād vastu vastvātmakaṃ kutaḥ // sukhaduḥkhādyekāntarūpiṇo vastuno vastutvaṃ kutaḥ / tadekāntatā puṇyapāpakṛtetyarthaḥ / evam anekapuruṣāpekṣayā kasyacit sukham eva kasyacid duḥkhaṃ bhavatītyavasthāṃ pratipādya, ekasminn api puruṣe na vyavasthitam ityāha -- tad eva prīyate bhūtvā punarsuḥkhāya jāyate / tad eva kopāya yataḥ prasādāya ca jāyate // tasmād duḥkhātmakaṃ nāsti na ca kiṃcit sukhātmakam / iti sukhaduḥkhātmakatvaṃ sarvasya vastunaḥ karmakṛtaṃ na vastusvarūpakṛtam / ataḥ karmāvasāne tad apaitītyarthaḥ /(RVas_143)

yat tu sarvaṃ paravaśaṃ duḥkham ityuktaṃ tatparamapuruṣavyatiriktānāṃ parasparaśeṣaśeṣibhāvābhāvāt tadvyatiriktaṃ prati śeṣatā duḥkham evetyuktam / sevā śvavṛttir ākhyātety atrāpy asevyasevā śvavṛttir evetyuktam / sa hy āśramaiḥ sadopāsyaḥ samastair eka eva tv iti sarvair ātmayāthātmyavedibhiḥ sevyaḥ puruṣottama eka eva / yathoktaṃ bhagavatā -- māṃ ca yo 'vyabhicāreṇa bhaktiyogena sevate / sa guṇān samatītyaitān brahmabhūyāya kalpate // itīyam eva bhaktirūpā sevā brahmavid āpnoti param -- tam evaṃ vidvān amṛta iha bhavati -- brahma veda brahmaiva bhavatītyādiṣu vedanaśabdenābhidhīyata ityuktam / yam evaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhya iti viśeṣaṇād yam evaiṣa vṛṇuta iti bhavagatā varaṇīyatvaṃ pratīyate / varaṇīyaś ca priyatamaḥ / yasya bhagavaty anavadhikātiśayā prītir jāyate sa eva bhagavataḥ priyatamaḥ / tad uktaṃ bhagavatā -- priyo hi jñānino 'tyartham ahaṃ sa ca mama priyaḥ / iti / tasmāt parabhaktirūpāpannam eva vedanaṃ tattvato bhagavatprāptisādhanam / yathoktaṃ bhagavatā dvaipāyanena mokṣadharme sarvopaniṣadvyākhyānarūpam -- na saṃdṛśo tiṣṭhati rūpam asya na cakṣuṣā paśyati kaścanainam / bhaktyā ca dhṛtyā ca samāhitātmā jñānasvarūpaṃ paripaśyatītīha // dhṛtyā samāhitātmā bhaktyā puruṣottamaṃ paśyati -- sākṣātkaroti -- prāpnotītyarthaḥ / bhaktyā tv anannyayā śakya ityanenāikārthyāt / bhaktiś ca jñānaviśeṣa eveti sarvam upapannam /(RVas_144)
