sādharmyavaidharmyābhyāṃ pratyavasthānasya vikalpāj jātibahutvam iti saṃkṣepeṇoktaṃ, tad vistareṇa vibhajyate -- tāḥ khalv imā jātayaḥ sthāpanāhetau prayukte caturviṃśatiḥ pratiṣedhahetavaḥ /

sādharmyamātreṇa vaidharmyamātreṇa ca sādhyasādhane pratijñāyamāne syād avyavasthā sā tu dharmaviśeṣe nopapadyate gosādharmyād gotvāj jātiviśeṣād gauḥ sidhyati na tu sāsnādisambandhāt / aśvādivaidharmyād gotvād eva gauḥ sidhyati na guṇādibhedāt / tac caitat kṛtavyākhyānam avayavaprakaraṇe pramāṇānām abhisambandhāc caikārthakāritvaṃ samānaṃ vākye iti / hetvābhāsāśrayā khalv iyam avyavastheti //
sādharmya-mātreṇa vaidharmya-mātreṇa ca sādhya-sādhane pratijñāyamāne syād avyavasthā sā tu dharma-viśeṣe na upapadyate go-sādharmyād gotvāj jāti-viśeṣād gauḥ sidhyati na tu sāsnā-ādi-sambandhāt / aśva-ādi-vaidharmyād gotvād eva gauḥ sidhyati na guṇa-ādi-bhedāt / tac ca etat kṛta-vyākhyānam avayava-prakaraṇe pramāṇānām abhisambandhāc ca eka-artha-kāritvaṃ samānaṃ vākye iti / hetv-ābhāsāśrayā khalv iyam avyavastha īti //

prāpya sādhyam aprāpya vā hetoḥ prāptyāviśiṣṭatvād aprāptyāsādhakatvāc ca prāptyaprāptisamau //
prāpya sādhyam aprāpya vā hetoḥ prāptya āviśiṣṭatvād aprāptya āsādhakatvāc ca prāpty-aprāptisamau //

tathābhāvād utpannasyeti / utpannaḥ khalv ayaṃ śabda iti bhavati / prāg utapatteḥ śabda eva nāsti, utpannasya śabdabhāvāc chabdasya sataḥ prayatnānantarīyakatvam anityatvakāraṇam upapadyate, kāraṇopapatter ayukto 'yaṃ doṣaḥ "prāg utpatteḥ kāraṇābhāvād" iti //

yathā sādhyadṛṣṭāntayor ekadharmasya prayatnānantarīyakatvasyopapatter anityatvaṃ dharmāntaram aviśeṣaḥ, naivaṃ sarvabhāvānāṃ sadbhāvopapattinimittaṃ dharmāntaram asti, yena aviśeṣaḥ syāt / atha matam anityatvam eva dharmānataraṃ sadbhāvopapattinimittaṃ bhāvānāṃ sarvatra syād iti, evaṃ khalu vai kalpyamāne anityāḥ sarve bhāvāḥ sadbhāvopapatter iti pakṣaḥ prāpnoti / tatra pratijñārthavyatiriktam anyad udāharaṇaṃ nāsti, anudāharaṇaś ca hetur nāstīti / pratijñaikadeśasya codāharaṇatvam anupapannam, na hi sādhyam udāharaṇaṃ bhavati / sataś ca nityānityabhāvād anityatvānupapattiḥ / tasmāt sadbhāvopapatteḥ sarvāviśeṣaprasaṅga iti nirabhidheyam etad vākyam iti / sarvabhāvānāṃ sadbhāvopapatter anityatvam iti bruvatānujñātaṃ śabdasyānityatvaṃ, tatrānupapannaḥ pratiṣedha iti //
yathā sādhya-dṛṣṭāntayor eka-dharmasya prayatna-ānantarīyakatvasya upapatter anityatvaṃ dharma-antaram aviśeṣaḥ, na evaṃ sarva-bhāvānāṃ sad-bhāva upapatti-nimittaṃ dharma-antaram asti, yena aviśeṣaḥ syāt / atha matam anityatvam eva dharma-anataraṃ sad-bhāva-upapatti-nimittaṃ bhāvānāṃ sarvatra syād iti, evaṃ khalu vai kalpyamāne anityāḥ sarve bhāvāḥ sad-bhāva-upapatter iti pakṣaḥ prāpnoti / tatra pratijñā-artha-vyatiriktam anyad udāharaṇaṃ na asti, anudāharaṇaś ca hetur na asti iti / pratijñā-eka-deśasya ca udāharaṇatvam anupapannam, na hi sādhyam udāharaṇaṃ bhavati / sataś ca nitya anitya-bhāvād anityatva-anupapattiḥ / tasmāt sad-bhāva-upapatteḥ sarva-aviśeṣa-prasaṅga iti nirabhidheyam etad vākyam iti / sarva-bhāvānāṃ sad-bhāva-upapatter anityatvam iti bruvata ānujñātaṃ śabdasya anityatvaṃ, tatra anupapannaḥ pratiṣedha iti //

ubhayakāraṇopapatter iti bruvatā nānityatvakāraṇopapatter anityatvaṃ pratiṣidhyate, yadi pratiṣidhyate nobhayakāraṇopapattiḥ syāt / ubhayakāraṇopapattivacanād anityatvakāraṇopapattir abhyanujñāyate, abhyanujñānād anupapannaḥ pratiṣedhaḥ / vyāghātāt pratiṣedha iti cet, samāno vyāghātaḥ / ekasya nityatvānityatvaprasaṅgaṃ vyāhataṃ bruvatoktaṃ pratiṣedha iti cet ? svapakṣaparapakṣayoḥ samāno vyāghātaḥ, sa ca naikatarasya sādhaka iti //
ubhaya-kāraṇa-upapatter iti bruvatā na anityatva-kāraṇa upapatter anityatvaṃ pratiṣidhyate, yadi pratiṣidhyate na ubhaya-kāraṇa-upapattiḥ syāt / ubhaya-kāraṇa-upapatti-vacanād anityatva-kāraṇa-upapattir abhyanujñāyate, abhyanujñānād anupapannaḥ pratiṣedhaḥ / vyāghātāt pratiṣedha iti cet, samāno vyāghātaḥ / ekasya nityatva-anityatva-prasaṅgaṃ vyāhataṃ bruvata ūktaṃ pratiṣedha iti cet ? sva-pakṣa-para-pakṣayoḥ samāno vyāghātaḥ, sa ca na ekatarasya sādhaka iti //

nirdiṣṭasya prayatnānantarīyakatvasyānityatvakāraṇasyābhāve 'pi vāyunodanād vṛkṣaśākhābhaṅgajasya śabdasyānityatvam upalabhyate / nirdiṣṭasya sādhanasyābhāve 'pi sādhyadharmopalabdhyā pratyavasthānam upalabdhisamaḥ //
nirdiṣṭasya prayatna-ānantarīyakatvasya anityatva-kāraṇasya abhāve 'pi vāyu-nodanād vṛkṣa-śākhā-bhaṅga-jasya śabdasya anityatvam upalabhyate / nirdiṣṭasya sādhanasya abhāve 'pi sādhya-dharma upalabdhyā pratyavasthānam upalabdhisamaḥ //

teṣām āvaraṇādīnām anupalabdhir nopalabhyate / anupalambhān nāstīty abhāvo 'syāḥ sidhyati / abhāvasiddhau hetvabhāvāt tadviparītam astitvam āvaraṇādīnām avadhāryate / tadviparītopapatter yatpratijñātaṃ "na prāg uccāraṇād vidyamānasya śabdasyānupalabdhir ity" etan na sidhyati / so 'yaṃ "hetur āvaraṇādyanupalabdher" ity āvaraṇādiṣu cāvaraṇādyanupalabdhau ca samayānupalabdhyā pratyavasthito 'nupalabdhisamo bhavati //
teṣām āvaraṇa-ādīnām anupalabdhir na upalabhyate / anupalambhān na asti ity abhāvo 'syāḥ sidhyati / abhāva-siddhau hetv-abhāvāt tad-viparītam astitvam āvaraṇa-ādīnām avadhāryate / tad-viparīta-upapatter yat-pratijñātaṃ "na prāg uccāraṇād vidyamānasya śabdasya anupalabdhir ity" etan na sidhyati / so 'yaṃ "hetur āvaraṇa-ādy-anupalabdher" ity āvaraṇā adiṣu cā avaraṇa-ādy-anupalabdhau ca samaya-anupalabdhyā pratyavasthito 'nupalabdhisamo bhavati //

āvaraṇādyanupalabdhir nāsti, anupalambhād ity ahetuḥ / kasmāt ? anupalambhātmakatvād anupalabdheḥ / upalambhābhāvamātratvād anupalabdheḥ / yad asti tad upalabdher viṣayaḥ, upalabdhyā tad astīti pratijñāyate / yan nāsti tad anupalabdher viṣayaḥ, anupalabhyamānaṃ nāstīti pratijñāyate / so 'yam āvaraṇādyanupalabheḥ anupalambha upalabdhyabhāve 'nupalabdhau svaviṣaye pravarttamāno na svaviṣayaṃ pratiṣedhati / apratiṣiddhā cāvaraṇādyanupalabdhi hetutvāya kalpate / āvaraṇādīni tu vidyamānatvād upalabdher viṣayāḥ, teṣām upalabdhyā bhavitavyam / yat tāni nopalabhyante, tadupalabdheḥ svaviṣayapratipādikāyā abhāvād anupalambhād anupalabdher viṣayo gamyate -- na santy āvaraṇādīni śabdasyāgrahaṇakāraṇānīti / anupalambhāt tv anupalabhiḥ sidhyati, viṣayaḥ sa tasyeti //

sthāpanā-pakṣe prayatna-kārya-anekatvād iti doṣaḥ sthāpanā-hetu-vādinaḥ sva-pakṣa-lakṣaṇo bhavati / kasmāt ? sva-pakṣa-samutthatvāt / so 'yaṃ sva-pakṣa-lakṣaṇaṃ doṣam apekṣamāṇo 'nuddhṛtya anujñāya pratiṣedhe 'pi samāno doṣa ity upapadyamānaṃ doṣaṃ para-pakṣe upasaṃharati / itthaṃ ca anaikāntikaḥ pratiṣedha iti hetuṃ nirdiśati / tatra sva-pakṣa-lakṣaṇa-apekṣaya ūpapadyamāna-doṣa-upasaṃhāre hetu-nirdeśe ca saty anena para-pakṣa-doṣo 'bhyupagato bhavati / kathaṃ kṛtvā ? yaḥ pareṇa prayatna-kārya-anekatvād-ity-ādina ānaikāntika-doṣa uktaḥ, tam anuddhṛtya pratiṣedhe 'pi samāno doṣa ity āha / evaṃ sthāpanāṃ sadoṣām abhyupetya pratiṣedhe 'pi samānaṃ doṣaṃ prasañjayataḥ para-pakṣa-abhyupagamāt samāno doṣo bhavati / yathā parasya pratiṣedhaṃ sadoṣam abhyupetya pratiṣedha-vipratiṣedhe 'pi samāno doṣaprasaṅgo mata-anujñā prasajyata iti, tatha āsya api sthāpanāṃ sadoṣām abhyupetya pratiṣedhe 'pi samānaṃ doṣaṃ prasañjayato mata-anujñā prasajyata iti / sa khalv ayaṃ ṣaṣṭaḥ pakṣaḥ / tatra khalu sthāpanā-hetu-vādinaḥ prathama-tṛtīya-pañcama-pakṣāḥ, pratiṣedha-hetu-vādinaḥ dvitīya-caturtha-ṣaṣṭa-pakṣāḥ teṣāṃ sādhv-asādhutāyāṃ mīmāṃsyamānāyāṃ caturtha-ṣaṣṭayor artha-aviśeṣāt punar-ukta-doṣa-prasaṅgaḥ / caturtha-pakṣe samāna-doṣatvaṃ parasya ucyate ---"pratiṣedha-vipratiṣedhe pratiṣedha-doṣavad doṣa" iti / ṣaṣṭe 'pi "para-pakṣa-doṣa-abhyupagamāt samāno doṣa" iti samāna-doṣatvam eva ucyate, na artha-viśeṣaḥ kaścid asti / samānas tṛṭīya-pañcamayoḥ punar-ukta-doṣa-prasaṅgaḥ, tṛṭīya-pakṣe 'pi "pratiṣedhe 'pi samāno doṣa" iti samānatvam abhyupagamyate / pañcama-pakṣe 'pi "pratiṣedha-vipratiṣedhe samāno doṣa-prasaṅgo"+abhyupagamyate, na artha-viśeṣaḥ kaścid ucyata iti / tatra pañcama-ṣaṣṭa-pakṣayor artha-aviśeṣāt punar-ukta-doṣa-prasaṅgaḥ, tṛtīya-caturthayor mata-anujñā, prathama-dvitīyayor viśeṣa-hetv-abhāva iti ṣaṭpakṣyām ubhayor asiddhiḥ / kadā ṣaṭpakṣī ? yadā "pratiṣedhe 'pi samāno doṣa" ity evaṃ pravarttate / tada ūbhayoḥ pakṣayor asiddhiḥ / yadā tu "kārya-anyatve prayatna-ahetutvam anupalabdhi-kāraṇa-upapatter" ity anena tṛṭīya-pakṣo yajyate, tadā viśeṣa-hetu-vacanāt "prayatna-anantaram ātma-lābhaḥ śabdasya, na abhivyaktir" iti siddhaḥ prathama-pakṣo na ṣaṭpakṣī pravartata iti //
